Self Credit Repair – 3 Tips Your Can Use Today

April 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Whatever you do – DO NOT use a so-called professional credit repair agency. You would be a lot better off to set your money on fire. The goal of this article is to give you some techniques that you can implement instantly.

I teach my students to start their self credit repair by putting together a budget. Create a personal balance sheet by making a list of your monthly debts versus your monthly income. This will give you a birds-eye of your financial situation. This is your starting point.

Request copies of your credit report. Once you have your credit report in hand you will want to circle all negative marks. Then it’s time to put together a letter of dispute and mail it back to the credit bureaus, along with any proof regarding your claims.

This next little secret is a life saver. Unfortunately I discovered it the hard way. When you are ready to mail your letters of dispute make sure that you send them certified mail. If you neglect this small step it could cost you dearly in the long run. This is the only proof that you will have to prove the time and date that you mailed your information.

The credit bureaus do not like dealing with credit agencies and those so-called credit attorneys. They know that they have no say so and that they cannot make decisions for you. It is better to write the dispute letter in your own words. I have had several of my students share with me their disaster stories and I would hate for you to become the next story. In my personal opinion you are a lot better off handwriting your letter or using a word processor.

In order to be successful at repairing your credit yourself you are going to need four things. The first thing you will need is knowledge. The second is organization. The third is persistence. The fourth is time. Keep in mind – your credit didn’t go downhill overnight so don’t expect it to magically be repaired overnight.
